A downloadable game

We entered Ludum Dare 24 together with a friend to make a game about an evil AI gone rogue. This was 12 years ago, so we upload Kernel Exception mostly for history preservation reasons.

Kernel Exceptions is a mix of System Shock and Dungeon Keeper basically - you play as the malevolent AI of a randomly generated space station, trying to take over all the robots and inhabitants. While you can control only one of your hacked/zombified minions  at the same time (you're not a multi-tasking AI), at least you can stop time!

Hint: Your minions have a red health bar, enemies have a green one.

Controls

  • WASD/Arrowkeys -> move .camera around
  • Scroll Wheel -> zoom .camera
  • Space -> freeze .time
  • E -> activate chase .camera (deactivate by moving .camera)
  • LMB -> select() .minion OR current .minion goes() to target OR attack()
  • RMB -> .minion patrols() between current tile and target
  • LMB (hold) -> make a .minion out of a .dying or .overheating NPC
